Integrating Adsense Ads on MS Office Live Web sites

Figure 1
For those who don't know, MS Office Live(OL) is a product offered by Microsoft that lets you register a domain name, design and host the Web site. MS OL Basics is available for free. I've been using OL Basics since November '06 and it has been really great experience. No, it is not like geocities where you'll get a domain like syedahmed.geocities.com. You can have your own top level domain and the best thing about this is that it is Ad-free meaning that Microsoft wouldn't pollute your site with their ads. All you'll see is a cute little MS Office Live logo at the bottom right corner of the page and that doesn't really bother me. Check out my Web site, www.syedahmed.com. For my senior year project at DeVry, I had a client(school) that couldn't afford to own a Web site and guess what I suggested? MS Office Live Basics. I designed the whole site for them in about a week.
With OL Basics you get 25 email accounts(5GB/email account), 500MB disk space, 10GB bandwidth, unlimited Web site reports and easy to use site designing tools. And I mean easy, real easy to design the site and get it up and running. You don't need to know html and stuff.

Ok! Here is the issue I had to tackle with. Putting Adsense ads on my OL Web site. Yes! I used Google to find the solution and there were a plenty but imagine spending hours to put a few adsense ads on just one site. Yes! I own a several OL sites in addition to other sites and blogs. ;) So, I found a quick and easy way to put ads on my OL sites. You can use this technique to put anything on your OL site. For example, Digg widgets, RSS Feeds, Web site shots and etc.

I found IFRAME script that lets you add ads to your OL site EASILY. I wouldn't really go in detail to tell you how IFRAME works but it works. Take a look at Figure 1 above. Now just follow the steps below to put ads on your OL site:
  1. Copy and paste the Adsense code in a Notepad document and save the document in HTML format, i.e. ".htm" or ".html".
  2. Upload the document in the Document Gallery.
  3. In the Design Mode choose the zone where you want to display ads.
  4. Click on Module tab and select HTML. A window will popup.
  5. In the HTML window insert the IFRAME code from Figure 1 above.
  6. Replace "PageToBeShown.htm" by the address of the HTML file you uploaded in the document gallery. To find the file's path, right click on the right click on the HTML file in the Document Gallery and select Properties. A window will popup with the file's URL address on it. It'll be something like this, "http://syedahmed.com/Documents/AdsenseUnit_Med_Rect.htm".
  7. Click on OK on the HTML window.
  8. Save your Web page and Click on View.

I find it the simplest and quickest way to put Adsense ads on my OL site. You can use the same method to add news feeds, widgets and etc. to your OL Web site. I'm pretty sure most of you will be able to do it in the first attempt but if you have any questions or need any help or have better idea to integrate Adsense(or anything else) on your OL site then feel free to discuss here.

This blog isn't going to be limited to MS Office Live and Adsense. In the future posts I'll show you how to optimize your blogs and sites for search engines to get more traffic.

Have a wonderful weekend :)

Make Money with Syed Ahmed

Welcome to Adnets! Got a Web site? Blog? Forum? I can show you how to monetize your sites, blogs or forums? I started a few Web sites and integarted Adsense, an ad- revenue program by Google that lets you add ads to your sites and pays you everytime your site visitors click on those ads. In the beginning, I didn't really make much money from adsense becauase I did not update my sites and blogs often. Only way to get repeat visitors on your blogs is to update it frequently. High-traffic= More Clicks= High-revenue.
Google's Adsense isn't the only ad-revenue program to benefit from. There are several other ad-revenue progarms offered by other companies that pay well, too. I'll be sharing that information with you in future blog posts. I'll also be writing an e-book that will be a comprehensive guide on monetizing your blogs. I'll try my best to update this blog daily but I have a fulltime job. I promise that I'll make posts atleast 3 days a week. Once the e-book is completed I'll add the link to it on this blog. Until the next post, feel free to ask any questions here.
Happy Blogging :)
